Two years of hard work (and a lot of fun hikes) are about to culminate in the release of my first book, Best Hikes with Kids St. Louis and Beyond. To say I’m excited would be a bit of an understatement.
A little background: When I lived near San Francisco, I used the Mountaineers Books’ guide “Best Hikes with Kids Bay Area.” When I moved to St. Louis, I quickly found that there were lots of great hikes nearby. I even started a hiking Meetup in order to find other families to hike with. I also noticed that there were a handful of hiking guidebooks, but none geared toward families with kids. So I went on the Mountaineers website, submitted a proposal, and soon got word that they were interested! It’s been quite something to combine two of my passions -- writing and hiking -- into such a rewarding professional project.
At the beginning of April I received the first advance copy of the book. It was such a thrill to finally hold it in my hand! The color photographs and maps look great. I can’t wait to see it on shelves, and that should happen at the end of May or beginning of June. Check back here for updates! And check the Events page to find out when I’ll be speaking and signing.
